Professional coatings applicators should be familiar with the following standards organizations and the specifications they publish:
- ICRI (International Concrete Repair Institute) — Publishes the CSP (Concrete Surface Profile) standards and many concrete surface preparation guidelines that are directly referenced in polyurea specifications.
- SSPC/AMPP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance) — The primary standards body for protective coatings on steel. SSPC surface preparation standards (SP1 through SP16) are referenced in virtually every steel substrate specification.
- ASTM International — Publishes test methods for coatings including D412 (tensile properties), D4541 (pull-off adhesion), F1869 (calcium chloride moisture test), and many others relevant to polyurea.
- SPFA (Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance) — The trade association representing SPF and polyurea contractors and suppliers. Their training programs and technical documents are valuable resources.
- ACI (American Concrete Institute) — Relevant for understanding concrete substrate properties, mix design, curing, and testing.
